15 Ways Julia Gillard Can Improve Australia, If You’re Listening.

Hi Julia,

Firstly congratulations on becoming Australia’s first female Prime Minister.

To avoid becoming one of the shortest term Prime Ministers I’ve suggested some ideas that could improve our Country if you are open to  listening.

1. Dump the Super tax on miners.

It’s pretty obvious Rudd’s refusal to listen re this was one reason he is no longer Prime Minister.

It has caused massive damage to our country internationally already and only the quick removal will hopefully enable our transgressions to be forgiven by foreign investors.

The super mining tax should never have been used for filling budget black holes created by your government.

However it should be for building of a Sovereign Wealth Fund for our future just like countries like Norway and Dubai put aside some of their oil revenues and not spend every time thinking the boom times will never end.

And the Sovereign Wealth Fund could also fund vital infrastructure to boost our long term output assisting miners.

Why not consider a simple federal royalty tax of 1 or 2% added on top of the state royalty taxes subject to modelling?

Such a tax miners would no doubt accept as it’s more viable and simple and it could still potentially raise several billion dollars without harshly affecting the mining industry.

2. Start a Sovereign Wealth Fund for reasons stated above.

3. If you want a super tax.

Create one for the banking industry.

Not only would it capture some of the insane profits Australian banks make off everyday Australians but it would actually be a vote winner.

You might actually even win an election with it.

Although not a overly large tax that would threaten their viability but a fair one that would boost tax revenue but once again not for labour to waste on ludicrous BER school building programs or welfare  but once again for a Sovereign Wealth Fund and infrastructure spending./

4. Immediately amend the company tax rate.

28% from 30% isn’t significant yet still costly

Introduce a staggered company tax rate.

IE: subject to modelling but something like

20% for first $500,000 in company profits earned down from 30.

25% for $500,000 to $1million.

Then 27.5%  $1m to $10million

And subject to modelling consider a 32.5% company tax rate on profits above $10million as larger a company is the more it can afford to pay in tax.

This would more than fund the lower company tax cuts at lower end of profits which would stimulate smaller business when they need it most  and also extra tax from companies that can afford it on profits above $10million  would boost revenue significantly to be disbursed smartly elsewhere in the economy.

5. Make Australia Post a Government owned Bank to provide real competition. Especially considering it was the labour Government that allowed CBA to buy Bank West and Westpac buy St George and create almost a two bank monopoly when Bank West and St George should have merged to form a 5th large bank maintaining real competition.

And hire private sector staff to run Australia Post as a bank so it’s efficient, which their former Nab Chief already does so perfect skill set to run it as a bank.

6. Admit that the BER school program was a complete disaster, has wasted billions and achieved nil outcome as far as improving quality education for our future.

And claim the excess fees back of the 4 main building companies that rorted this system even though conveniently they were large labour donors.

7. Stop claiming all the credit that labour government was the reason we avoided a major recession in the Credit Crisis.

If I’d had a strategy of wasting billions of dollars to stimulate a country through a credit crisis then I wouldn’t be claiming that was a smart strategy.

We avoided the recession largely because of one thing.

That’s China and the commodities of ours they need which now is being threatened by an overzealous mining tax.

Sure stimulating an economy is important however those billions could have went to the pockets of Australian tax payers rather then wasted or into infrastructure considering a lot over that time could have been shovel ready.

And maybe move Ken Henry to China or Siberia. Anywhere away from Australia so he can’t cause this country any more harm with the flawed tax review ideas.

8 Stop messing with Superannuation and changing the rules.

Why would Australians invest in super when they can’t trust it won’t be messed with.

And implement a law that super funds can’t charge ludicrous fees to manage money simple handed to them from compulsory super. Set a maximum fee.

There are billions a year saved.

It’s currently a total rort of Australians retirement funds.

9. Eliminate State Governments.

An unnecessary expense and only creates in fighting and duplicate of government.

The country could save billions and eliminate such gross inefficiencies and wastage and bureaucracy nightmares.

Appoint state Ministers to the front bench to manage their relevant State replacing Premiers.

Health Care, Education and Transport should all be nationally run under one frame work.

We are the one country, are we not?

The savings and efficiencies would be enormous.

A bold move but surely it should be modelled re cost savings.

10. Slash Pay Roll tax for smaller companies.

The minimum threshold should be at least $2million and it should be handled by the ATO not SRO.

Why penalise small business for employing people.

Makes no sense.

It’s a crime to do this.

If need be an incremental increase on large companies on payrolls over say $10million would more then cover this.

Remember that Pay Roll Tax was to be abolished as part of states getting GST revenue.

Australian  business is still waiting for this promise to be delivered.

11. Stamp Duty.

A total joke.

I know you’d never remove it as Governments are so addicted so at least make concessions.

Anyone that has to pay stamp duty in any financial year should get the stamp duty paid as a tax credit to offset any other tax paid for the year.

12.Recognise top taxpayers for their contribution to Australians rather then having the ATO attack dogs target entrepreneurs.

Are we a capitalist country or communist?

Provide them incentives and rewards not penalties for paying more then their fair share.

It really doesn’t motivate them to work harder to pay more tax to the Government.

It creates resentment and a brain drain of some of our best talent and companies.

And stop taxing Australians who have legitimate overseas business.

No other country does it.

Also I’d suggest encourage entrepreneurism

Australia for whatever reason seems to be fascinated by criminals and at times places them on a pedestal yet makes its entrepreneurial leaders the villains.

IE: as seen in success of nearly all Australian dramas being crime dramas  including Underbelly

Maybe it’s a hangover from our colonial days but the days of Ned Kelly are surely over.

The personal attack by the former Prime Minister on numerous Australian Billionaires recently including Clive Palmer especially was appalling behaviour and somewhat inappropriate to paint those that employ Australians and invest into this country as somehow the enemy is absurd.

Maybe you should ask him to say sorry.

13. Eliminate the idea of Welfare for those that can help themselves but are too lazy.

Welfare breeds poverty.

Welfare is for those who the more fortunate should help because they can’t help themselves.

Not to rob the middle class to feed those who are too lazy to work and pull their own weight and expect others to pay their way.

14.Realise that many things can be improved without the need for more money and more taxes.

IE: Education

Australians education system or lack of it could be dramatically improved without any more money.

Money solves many problems but not all.

Its about efficiencies and effectiveness.

Ideas and action.

The idea that throwing money at problems is the solution is absurd.

Money poorly directed is simply wastage which you should know all about.

15. Introduce Financial Education to Schools and Universities.

A financially literate country will save more, invest more, produce more and achieve more.

They’ll be healthier both emotionally due to believing in their future and physically lowering Health Costs, and productivity levels would expand greatly

None of this requires money.

It requires leadership and passion and team work.

Something that Australians I’m sure would like to see in their Politicians.

I’m sure they’d also like to see the end of political correctness and would love  politicians who will say it how it is regardless of popularity. And  ones that are actually focused on doing something rather than simply talking about it or are just  focused on being seen to be doing something.

And what’s with using  taxpayers money in Government Propaganda advertising.

Didn’t labour promise to never do that.

Australia has a lot of talented individuals and can lead this country to a prosperous future.

If I was you I’d be asking for all the help you can get.

Good luck.

How on earth we can have a person “leading” our country
1/ Who is in an “defacto” relationship.
2/ Has no children thus never raised a family.
3/ Has had very little experience in business.
4/ Is unsure of the term “Do unto others!!”
5/ Appears very short on any of the major experiences of life.
Who is this lady? or maybe the question is – Who were the puppeteers that chose her to wear the captains hat? Questions need to be asked must include the “Craig Jervis” 5 Whys’. Why, Why,Why, Why,Why.

Jamie I just wrote to some of your staff. All points are great. Point 15, Financial Education for youth. Do you have programs and materials made for this I can use and promote.

I saw a mini bus in the Nairobi Slums with cool logos and FLY written on it. FLY Financial Lessons for Youth. It is cool to be Financially smart and all readers can promote your program to kids, just as we promote our books to our friends.

Will Julia Gillard’s re-elected Labor Party government fixed voters voices, pains and crying?

The historical hung parliament demonstrated deep in voter’s heart a fixed must to carry on in vision and action immediately:

    Voters’ voices do not hear?
    Voters’ pains do not ease?
    Voters’ cries do not care?

    1. Poverty will not be phase out if no fairer resources to share;

    4. Housing affordability will not be reach for young generation if government continues cashing from young generation debt by eating out the whole cake of education export revenue without plough back;
    5. Manufacture industry will shrink smaller and smaller if no new elements there to power up to survive;
    6. Employability will not in the sustainable mode for so long as manufacture and agriculture not going to boost.

  11. Beautiful article Jamie. I think we need you in parliament. We really need to look to politicians who are informed by policies to initiate that can utilise what you have said and the need for a system based on policies the people will vote for and get rid of political parties but have one party that is continuously monitoring what the people are thinking and are putting those thoughts into being. I too have always thought there should be different levels of taxes according to what people are earning. The more one earns the more tax should be paid which is only logical. The government should tax banks more and rich corporations to contribute to the countries success. Governments need to increase their asset base and be able to support itself instead of relying on overseas borrowing. Banks should be government owed and there should also be private banks but they need to pay their taxes to contribute to helping the economy and the people. Because countries have sold out their assets is because they never increased taxes from the rich and the banks and gave way to foreign investment giving foreigners free reign so to speak. It has not been fair to the people of the land. A government should be by the people for the people and it has reached the level that politicians now, need to do what we are talking about here.

All the best Jamie and may you be Prime Minister one day.

To your success and the success of Australia

Voter is crying for department reforms over 70 years that resulting a 2010 Hung Parliament?
An iceberg example of voter’s crying:
“……it seem to me there was an unfair to treat me when the merit of “Claim for Disability Support Pension or Sickness Allowance” form in detail clearly defy 15 hours classify the cut off point for acceptance, when comparing to my early assessment completed in June this year that it has the merit less than 8 hours (0-7) work capacity due to my long term medical impairment since an injury occurred in 2005”…….
